Albania is a country with beautiful landscape and virgin nature. From north to south there are lot of attractions that are hidden or unknown by the majority of people. Also, natives are very proud of the culture and the heritage that are continuing even in today. The history of our ancients and most of all the language by itself is very interesting. Every mountain in Albania is special in its kind. There are many researches that have studied the history and the nature of our small country. Even a small piece of Balkan, we are full of amazing places and astonished Parks.
First of all lets talk about the most beautiful Park that has made proud all the country, the National Park of Theth.
So the Theth National Park is situated in the heart of the Albanian Alps, in the area of the Bjeshkët e Namuna, covering an area of 2,630 hectares. This park boasts a magnificent landscape adorned by the crystal-clear Theth River, where marble trout thrive, the enchanting Grunas waterfall, and more. The park is known for its dense forest cover dominated by beech trees, some of which are over 200 years old. patients with respiratory difficulties because breathing air in the middle of the pine trees feels wonderful. Notably, Theth Park is the sole area in Albania where the rare brown bear species finds refuge. During spring and winter natives have seen this kind of bear in the mountains around but has not been any damage. Also there were some photographers that manages to take some shots at the animals.
The park offers accommodation in traditional alpine-style structures that are build recently with all the facilities. It provides numerous opportunities for a wide range of activities such as mountain climbing, mountain biking, spelunking (cave tourism), sports fishing, and winter sports in natural snow-covered slopes, and more.
The Theth region forms the heart of the Albanian Alps, located in the western Alps of Albania, approximately 70 kilometers from the city of Shkodra. It’s renowned for its climatic and biodiversity values. Theth has been declared a National Park and is part of the joint “Peace Park” project encompassing the cross-border region of the “Bjeshkët e Namuna” between three states: Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro.
The park’s fauna comprises 50 bird species, 10 reptile species, and 8 amphibian species. Theth Park remains the most important habitat in our country. The most important thing about this Park is that it is hosting various vulture species, like the golden eagle, alpine salamanders, and a plethora of colorful butterflies.
Also, among the most interesting attractions for tourists in Theth are Grunas Waterfall, with a height of 25–30 meters, and the nearby “Birreve me rrathe” cave, where various formations like stalactites, stalagmites, and wall draperies can be found.
Another notable cave among others of this type is Arapi Cave. The water sources of Okoli, from which the Theth River is fed, are also quite attractive. If you want to visit this places it is better that you pay for a guide person to take you for a tour.
The Theth National Park is renowned for its heavy snowfall, which typically lasts around 150 days a year. For almost 6 months, this area remains blocked by snow, which reaches Qafa e Terthores at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, connecting Boge to the Theth Basin. Although the roads are cleaned everyday in continuous, the snow falls heavy and to visi Thethi at this ime of the year you need special cars for winter roads.
In Theth, you will find alpine-style buildings with steeply pitched roofs made of stone slabs. Here, you’ll also discover the “blood feuding tower,” an epic element of Albanian life where blood feud participants sought refuge. This tower is now a cultural monument.
Not to be forgotten is also the traditional Theth cuisine that includes “ferliku” (roast meat), cooking marble trout from the Theth River, and dairy products made from the villagers.
