So, depending on the region or the locality the food also varies. The roots of cooking is a tradition that has continue till today. So the mother of families have the duty to teach their female children the art of cooking.

Every girl that is young enough is taught by the oldest female of the family who could be either her mother or her grandmother.  The main dishes of the Albanian cooking are different kind of stews and many types of casserole. cooking is based on vegetables of the season and almost always with meat. Not to forget are also the desserts because the sweet tooth, is is as for tradition, a sign of hospitality at the end of the visit in one house.

Albanian like very much the borek that the grandmothers made since the childhood and they are used to it every weekend. It seems rare but on the weekend families used to gather eating each a small piece of the special borek. Nowadays the youth use to eat it in the morning as a tasty breakfast followed by a glass of yogurt or buttermilk.

Normally the question here could be why only the females has this duty of cooking? The reason is that males are usually the head of the house and they should make money for the family not to cook. As a rule, the husband is obliged to word harder that the wife and take more money to his house than the woman.
